In response to Margaret Court

I write in response to this video.

This video is hard for me to watch, both as an Australian and as a Christian. Both sides of this arguement are flawed.
Did you know that when new citizens are sworn in by the Australian government, they are required to agree to a statement of values? In it, it says this:
Australian society values respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual, freedom of religion, commitment to the rule of law, Parliamentary democracy, equality of men and women and a spirit of egalitarianism that embraces mutual respect, tolerance, fair play and compassion for those in need and pursuit of the public good.
Yet, when I watched that video, I didn’t see that respect of freedom of individual nor religion. As Australians, we pride ourselves on being able to be ourselves unapologetically. But what I saw was a woman being laughed at for her views because they are not what is popular. Yet it would be hypocritical of me to say that Australians have treated the LGBTQIA community with the same values that I want to be shown to Christians.
So I get why the LGBTQIA community are angry and hurting. Society as a whole has been crap to them for ages and they are wanting to be seen as equal. I see that and want to help them not hurt. Yet, I cannot agree with their stance on marriage.
They are wanting to be accepted by all parts of society, and Christians have been the most vocal in saying that they shouldn’t be allowed to marry, much to my distress. Australian society was once based on Christian values but we are not a Christian nation anymore. I’m not sure you can have a whole nation that is a Christian society. So when Christians say that the laws of the land have to reflect what we believe, I disagree.
As a bible-believing, Jesus-loving Christian, I think that Christians should be first and foremost be saying, “I get that you want that, but there is something so much better than that. There is Jesus and he will give you satisfaction and fulness in a way that nothing else can. And yes, marriage is a good gift given by God for a man and a woman. But I cannot force my beliefs upon you. I can only point at the Cross and say look at the thing that is better than even marriage. When you see the truth of the cross, you’ll see why I believe what I believe.”
Christians are called to be in this world but not of this world. So both as an Australia, but first and foremost a Christian, I will stand up for what I believe in. But in doing so, I will fight to bring glory to God above all things.

Amen.
